Alabama Livestock & Co-Housing
A GrowShare Capital Project
A foundational, mission-driven project to reshape our community's connection with land, food systems, housing, and ownership in America.
Project Overview
Strengthening community-based investment for a sustainable future.
A week ago, we held a foundational meeting with Brother Selim, Dr. Aminuddin, and Ashif Jahan to begin structuring the livestock program on Brother Selim’s farm in Birmingham.
We are already preparing a simple agreement to raise an initial $20,000 to launch the project. GrowShare Capital will lead the fundraising, and Khalui Farm LLC will contribute $5,000 in seed support for this effort.
Our intent is not for the initial stakeholders to remain the only ones. Instead, our vision is to involve a significant number of local community members who can take on different roles and benefit from this shared investment model.
This initiative aims to:
- Strengthen community-based investment that ensures fair pricing.
- Engage more families and partners in sustainable livestock practices.
- Develop co-housing opportunities in Birmingham that will provide affordable living, strengthen social ties, and anchor community growth alongside the farm.
- Create pathways to ownership through USDA programs, federally funded CDFIs, and other financial platforms.
- Expand opportunities and knowledge-sharing so the program can become a replicable model for other communities.
This is more than an investment in a farm; it’s an investment in our community’s future. We invite you to join us in bringing this vision to life.
